Justice League Defeated By Singing Skeletons
Well, that didn’t last long. After a single weekend at the top of the box office, Justice League dropped to the second place. According to Box Office Mojo, its place was taken by Coco, a new animated film by Pixar and Disney. The story of 12-year old Miguel (voiced by Anthony Gonzalez) as his musical adventures in the land of the dead accompanied by his ancestor Héctor (Gael García Bernal) charmed the audiences, earning almost $51 million in its first weekend in cinemas. Meanwhile, Warner Bros superhero extravaganza featuring the most iconic superheroes of the DC universe earned a bit above $49 million in its second weekend.
Drama Wonder starring Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson keeps doing remarkably well. While it did drop to the third place from the last week’s second, this $20 million movie nevertheless earned $22.6 million last weekend, bringing its total up to almost $70 million. In the fourth place is Thor Ragnarok, grossing $16.8 million in its fourth weekend in cinemas. Finally, in the fifth place is the holiday comedy Daddy’s Home 2 with $13.2 million.
Kevin Feige Confirms The Approaching End Of The MCU Era
In a recent expose in Vanity Fair, Kevin Feige, the mastermind behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe, dropped hints about its upcoming end… or at least the end of its current phase. Most – if not all – of MCU’s current roster of superheroes will reunite in the spring of 2018 in Avengers: Infinity War. Beside Black Panther, there are two more standalone movies planned: Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel. The current phase of MCU will culminate in 2019 with the as yet unnamed fourth Avengers movie directed by the Russo Brothers.
What happens afterward? While Feige confirmed that Marvel Studio has about twenty titles in its docket, he claims that they will be “completely different” from anything seen before. Color us suspicious. But then again, in 2008 not many people expected that the Iron Man movie, of all things, would not only be surprisingly good but lead into a shared cinematic universe that, a decade later, includes seventeen movies and a $13 billion collective box office.
The Return of Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return
AVClub reports that Netflix recently announced its plans to renew Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return for a second season – or twelfth, depending on how you count it. This happened during the annual Mystery Science Theater 3000 Turkey Day Marathon, an ancient festivity dedicated to re-watching MST3K classics such as Space Mutiny (Gristle McThornbody!), Final Sacrifice (Rowsdower!) or The Pumaman (He flies like a moron!).
Started by Joel Hodgson way back in 1988, Mystery Science Theater 3000 follows a hapless technician and a pair of robots as they’re forced to watch and make fun of low-budget sci-fi and horror movies. The format proved popular enough (and cheap to produce) to last for over two hundred episodes. Although the show ended in 1999, in August 2015, a Kickstarter campaign announced Mystery Science Theater: The Return raised over $5.7 million for fourteen new episodes released by Netflix in April 2017. It is as yet unknown when the new episodes will air but the announcement trailer did include appearances by Hodgson as well as by its current host Jonah Ray and Felicia Day who, in the show, plays the mad scientist sending bad movies to her prisoners.
