According to The Hollywood Reporter, filmmaker Mike Flanagan wants to tackle King’s horror novel Revival with a help of his frequent collaborator, producer Trevor Macy. First published in 2014, the novel tells a story of a preacher Charles Jacobs who loses his wife and child in a tragic car accident. Refusing to accept their deaths, Jacobs publicly renounces god, becomes a carnival huckster, and undertakes experiments leading to some distinctly Kingian gruesomeness.
Flanagan already helmed two Stephen King adaptations. Last year he filmed Doctor Sleep, based on a sequel to The Shining. In 2017, he directed Gerald’s Game – a feature length adaptation of King’s 1992 psychological horror novel. But Revival isn’t Flanagan’s only current project. Additionally, this 41-year old director is developing a limited series titled Midnight Mass for Netflix. He’s also working on the second season of his anthology horror series The Haunting of Hill House. Titled The Haunting of Bly Manor, it is based on a Victorian novella The Turn of the Screw by Henry James.
Neither are these only adaptations of King’s work in development. A mere cursory search through our website shows upcoming movie and TV adaptations of novels like The Stand, ‘Salem’s Lot, From a Buick 8, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, The Eyes of the Dragon, and The Long Walk. That’s a lot of King! Let’s hope that at least some of these movies turn out fine!
