Sony Postpones Spider-Verse Sequel and Other Movies

Last November, Sony Pictures announced that the highly anticipated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel will arrive on April 8, 2022. However, SlashFilm reports the studio now halted the film’s release until October 7, 2022 – full six months! But Spider-Verse sequel isn’t the sole postponed movie. Initially slated for a release on September 18, 2020, Phil Lord & Christopher Miller’s CGI-animated film Connected will now come out instead on October 23, 2020. Horror flick Escape Room 2 arrives on January 1, 2021, instead of December 30, 2020.

Other titles fared better, though. Yet another animated film, Hotel Transylvania 4 is being shifted up to August 6, 2021 from its previous December 2021 release date. The long-gestating Uncharted movie now once again has a release date – July 16, 2021.

This news doesn’t come as a surprise. Last week, we learned Sony postponed its planned Venom sequel (now titled Venom: Let There Be Carnage). In what seems like ages ago but was just early April, Sony Pictures also rescheduled the release of Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, superhero horror movie Morbius, and family adventure film Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway. All of these movies are now coming out in 2021.
