Variety reports Warner Bros. postponed the release of Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Originally set for June 25, 2021, release, the latest film about the Caped Crusader (featuring Robert Pattison in a lead role) will now come out on October 1, 2021.
This isn’t the only major release postponed by the studio. Warner Bros. also pushed the release of Shazam 2 seven months – from April 1, 2022, to November 4, 2022. David Chase’ The Sopranos prequel titled The Many Saints of Newark presently comes out on March 12, 2021, instead of September 25, 2020. Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic will arrive on November 5, 2021, instead of on October 1, 2021. A rare exception to this is The Flash movie. This long-gestating superhero blockbuster has been moved forward – from July 1, 2022, to June 2, 2022.
Warner Bros. already postponed releases of Wonder Woman 1984, CGI-animated Scoob, an adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical In the Heights, and James Wan’s latest horror Malignant. Similarly, Sony pushed back releases of Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Morbius, while Disney postponed premieres of Free Guy, Jungle Cruise, Mulan, Pixar’s Soul and pretty much all of its Marvel Studios movies, starting with Black Widow.
