Quibi Pivots to TV, Apple TV+ Streams Some of Its Shows for Free

As we reported, streaming service Quibi debuted last week with less-than-stellar results – some 300 000 downloads in its first day. However, according to SlashFilm, the service had 1.7 million downloads in its initial week. 80% of users watched a chosen show from beginning to end. While somewhat better, these results do point out Quibi’s mobile-only platform isn’t all that enticing to viewers stuck at home in self-isolation. The service is currently developing a way its subscribers can watch it on their TVs. Creators claim this was the plan from the start, but the changing market and a sky-rocketing need for more home entertainment put this objective onto the fast track.

Speaking of streaming, Apple TV+ joined AMC, CBS All Access, HBO and others to offer limited-time free streaming of their content. Not all of Apple TV+ shows are free, but there are some interesting titles available. There’s the anthology series Little America based on true-life articles from Epic Magazine. Then there’s alternate-history drama For All Mankind in which space race between USA and USSR never ended. Finally, there’s also M. Night Shyamalan-produced psychological horror series Servant.
